Inter-Generational Reading Buddies with Fountain View

As you know, we have our Inter-Generational Reading Buddies partnership with Fountain View Assisted Living in Coopersville. Last month, we took turns reading aloud to the residents and today we performed our reader's theater plays. I was so proud of our students. They did such a fantastic job! Here are pictures from our adventures at Fountain View:

March is Reading Month!

March is reading month and with that comes fun Fridays, mystery readers, and of course lots of reading! This year's theme is "Happy Camper."

Whether it's reading month or not, we are already GREAT readers. After all, the 'smore you read, the 'smore you know!

be nice.

Our district has began a chapter in the "be nice" initiative. The n.i.c.e. model focuses on notice, invite, challenge, and empower. We will be learning about these characteristics throughout the year and incorporating the n.i.c.e. model in our schools. If you would like to learn more about "be nice." check out the website at www.benice.org.

Today, we had our first "be nice." lesson. We talked about what it means to be nice to someone and brainstormed a list of nice comments to say to others. Then we played a game with a ball where we threw the ball to each other after saying a nice comment to that person. Mr. DeRidder even joined in on the fun.
